ART SAFARI - 2018 Program Launch
7:00PM  - 9:00PM @Burrinja Gallery

hillsceneLIVE meets the Wild Awards at the launch of the 2018 festival program. A place to play with new works, enjoy the gallery in a different way, enter the idea of ART Safari – an evening to showcase the artists and reinvent the gallery space. The gallery will be inhabited by these ingenious folk, establishing the interior scape of a performative participatory party. Intended as an interactive responsive experience of the Hillscence LIVE performers, the evening will launch the 2018 Hillscene LIVE program.
At the same time Burrinja Gallery will be exhibiting the works from The Wildlife Art Society of Australasia major biennial exhibition ‘The Wild Awards’.  The meeting of these two programs promises to be an expedition into the wild side of art.
Come get launchy at ART Safari!

PD WORKSHOP
Responsive Cultural Practice with Gareth Hart
@ Birdsland Environmental Education Centre, 6pm - 8pm

This workshop explores the potential for creative practitioners to develop and sustain leadership capacity within the arts and cultural sector.

Individual Artists often assume leadership roles within their own creative environments. How then can artists transition from being practitioners of form, into practitioners and pioneers of supportive and responsive leadership within their own community? How can future leaders of this ecosystem lean upon their own unique skills in order to enable the creative growth of others?

This session seeks to embody responsive and responsible cultural leadership at a community level. In being responsive, we are intrinsically connected to the people, cultures and practices of our community. We need to listen and engage with these ideologies from within.

The workshop is not a 'how to....' but more of a 'how might we....'

A light dinner will be included.

PERFORMANCE
Generative Unearthing
@ The Burrow, 83 Brunswick St, Fitzroy, 8pm

When experimental live artists from differing forms who have never collaborated before collide... what is uncovered? What sort of knowledges and practices are meeting and communicating? There is potential for jarring moments, perfect synchronising, confusion, revelation.

As we navigate these experiences in experimental underground performance art venue The Burrow (fka Aeso Studio), we will consider the 2018 hillsceneLIVE festival theme: Our Hidden Catalyst.

Bringing together artists 2 at a time, a series of dynamic improvisational performances will be generated. Join us as we unearth the unknown together.
