hillsceneLIVE 2018 Expressions of Interest
We are excited to announce that expressions of interest are now open to artists. We encourage artists/groups who have a burning desire to explore something new, to ask bold questions, or to challenge yourselves/your artform to apply. Applications close midnight 1st April.
This year's theme is: Our Hidden Catalyst
2018's festival is to be held on the 17th & 18th of November at Birdsland Reserve in the Dandenong Ranges, approx. 1 hour east of Narrm / Melbourne.
Birdsland is a large environmental reserve with many different spaces to activate... from the multi-roomed mud brick education centre, to a rolling field, to little pathways through natural spaces and much much more.
Over the years the festival has activated a range of abandoned, disused and alternative spaces throughout the Dandenong Ranges. It is helpful for proposals to be connected to the area in some way (you live/work/play here, your work is important to audiences here, you take inspiration from the area, etc). Driven by a desire to support the experimental, empower the risky, encourage the challenging and sit outside of the easily definable, the festival is a feast of live / time-based art practice that supports artists to experiment and realise creative ideas.
We are now calling out to all makers working in: theatre, dance/movement, sound, spoken word, situational arts, live art, comedy, and especially those that do not fit within these categories.
We are asking you to ask us. Ask us all a question through your work. We are not seeking shiny, polished pieces of work that fit nicely into traditionally digestible modes. We are excited by experimentation, boldness, aversion to the straight-and-narrow, complexity and challenge.
Get in touch to talk about your idea, keep an eye out on our facebook page, or contact us at hello@hillscenelive.com
