hsL #10 iteration party POSTPONED

Due to the recent increase in COVID-19 cases and the implementation of capacity restrictions from the state government, we are sad to say that the hsL #10 iteration party, that was to happen this coming Saturday 15th of January, has been postponed until later in the year (date TBA). We have made the difficult decision to postpone the event to ensure that everyone in our community stays safe.

The hsL team are sad that we won’t get to see how good you all look in short shorts but hope that we can all get together later in 2022 to celebrate liveART in all its forms.

Flirting the Precipice

As we all pause before the exhale, as we all prepare for what comes next, we enkindle the next permutation by flirting the precipice of what is to come. We hope this provocation gets your creative juices flowing and are looking forward to seeing the curious, risky, bold ideas for works that it inspires.

End of an era
After three years at the helm Justine Walsh has stepped down as Artistic Director of hillsceneLIVE. Justine has been a huge part of this amazing creative program since its inception in 2014 under the leadership of Gareth Hart. HillsceneLIVE has benefitted from Justine's involvement as she went from presenting artist to Producer to Artistic Director. Under her leadership the festival has:
- received Creative Victoria Funding (2018)
- developed an extensive artistic development process for artists
- increased awareness and engagement of indigenous arts practice
- forged insightful relationships with leading arts organisations such Deakin University Performing Arts School and Footscray Community Arts Centre
Justine brought an emotionally charged and passionate energy to the program, always looking at ways to nurture artists in their creative journeys. HillsceneLIVE are forever thankful for her commitment to being brave and bold in her leadership and we wish her all the best with her future passions.

And that's a wrap for 2019
Thank you everyone for a fabulous 2019 festival. We have loved being at Karwarra Gardens, thank you to Lindy and the team for their support. And thank you to all the wonderful artists that chose to delve into their turbulent lineages and explore their shifting thresholds... And to all the brave audience members who stuck it out in the rain
We invite you to provide feedback so that we continue to present quality live art performance outcomes

Announcing the 2018 theme

As artists we question ourselves and the world deeply. We look in any and all spaces to find the potential seeds of what is to come. We remain curious, open to the possibilities - we consider ideas that are as yet unformed, raw concepts to be distilled, slowly turning, filtering what rains down and bubbles up.
In selecting our theme for 2018, we are interested in the idea of a radical shifting space. The feeling of something dark, heavy, murky. Grace, and malice. The brutality of nature. Immersion, in something uncategorized, unknown, nuanced… listening in, deeply, so we can interpret it. Together.

So we make art. Find ways to connect the nodes, and build resilience. The surface is not satisfactory - it is more interesting underneath. Subterranean activity. We dig down to draw it up. What is concealed, buried? What is this culture, society, landscape, ecology that is growing? How do we do this?
