The Dramaturgy of Stagecraft: Two-Day Technical Workshop

Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 July at ​Karwarra Gardens, Kalorama.
A dynamic two-day professional development workshop tailored for artists, performers, and creative practitioners seeking to deepen their understanding of the technical dimensions of performance-making.

Led by four renowned artists and technical specialists—Dave Thomson, Henry Barratt, Roderick Price, and Toni Main—this workshop offers hands-on exploration of lighting, sound, projection mapping, AV installation, site rigging, scenographic design, and performance interfacing.

​Expect hands-on experimentation, expert insight, and collaborative processes designed to deepen your technical fluency and unlock new narrative potential in your work.

Workshop Description & Schedule

Day 1: Exploration & Technical Introduction (10:00am – 4:00pm)
Day 1 offers a hands-on exploration into the technical elements of stage craft. Each presenter will share insights into their creative and technical practice and deliver a mini-workshop that actively engages participants. Areas of focus include:
  • Audio recording and live sound manipulation
  • Lighting design and DMX control systems
  • Projection mapping and spatial media design
  • Site rigging and staging logistics
  • AV playback systems and cueing
  • Performance interfacing
  • Scenographic and spatial design principles
Day 2: Presentation & Feedback
​(10:00am – 4:00pm)

Day 2 provides a platform for participants to present exploratory works developed during Day 1. Using sound, light, projection, and stage craft, participants will share their creative investigations for feedback and refinement. The format will be informal and supportive, allowing for feedback, group discussion, and further iteration.
